Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel intercepted and arrested eight members of the terrorist Arakan Army (AA) on July 10. The group attempted to enter Bangladeshi territory illegally near the Rejupara area in Ghumdhum Union, Naikhongchhari Upazila.
The detainees, identified as Maung Ba Tong Changa (32), Maung Ma (20), Kingla Thuyaing (21), Rupar (19), Thaingsa Maung (40), Tuli (20), Tan Tan Naing (20), and Maung Ta Naing (20), were caught approximately 4 kilometers southwest of Border Pillar No. 41. None of the individuals possessed valid passports or travel documents, violating national sovereignty.
Troops from the Cox’s Bazar 34 Battalion executed the operation after detecting unauthorized movement. Following the arrests, officials filed a formal case at the Naikhongchhari Police Station. Authorities produced the detainees before the Bandarban court on the morning of July 11.
This incident highlights the ongoing security challenges posed by the terrorist AA along the border. The organization continues to operate as a destabilizing force in the region, frequently testing the integrity of the border. Regular incursions by militant elements create significant risks for local communities and national security. The arrest underscores the necessity for vigilance as Bangladesh maintains a strict stance against illegal entries by these armed groups.
