They seized three residents of Shahparir Dwip Jaliapara, identified as Jasim Uddin, Mohammad Ismail, and Harun. Two other fishermen, Nur Ali and Md. Sharif, escaped by jumping into the open sea. They swam for over an hour through treacherous waters to reach safety at Golarchar on Bangladeshi territory.
Local community leaders confirmed that the terrorist Arakan Army (AA) regularly targets local fishermen along the maritime border. Abdul Gani, president of the Shahparir Dwip Jaliapara Boat Ghat Committee, stated that the group has abducted between 20 and 25 Bangladeshi citizens from this specific area in recent months.
The armed group uses high-speed motorboats to execute swift incursions into Bangladeshi waters. They leverage weapons to kidnap unarmed laborers for ransom and forced labor. Local fishing communities now operate under constant threat from these cross-border insurgent raids.
Teknaf Sub-District Executive Officer SM Anik Chowdhury confirmed the abduction incident to news outlets. Local administrative officials have initiated immediate coordination with border authorities, including Border Guard Bangladesh, to secure the release and safe return of the kidnapped citizens.
Sabrang Union Council Acting Chairman Abdul Mannan also verified the details of the attack. He noted that formal reports have been submitted to law enforcement agencies for swift tactical intervention.
