Terrorist Arakan Army Detains Nineteen Rohingya Fishermen Despite Prior Permission in Maungdaw

Maungdaw Township, Arakan State

On September 12, 2026, forces belonging to the terrorist Arakan Army (AA) detained nineteen Rohingya fishermen in Maungdaw Township, Arakan State. These workers departed from Shwe Zar village early in the morning. They sought legal approval to fish in the Naf River. Officials at the local insurgent camp granted official permission. However, coastal patrol units intercepted the boats just hours later.

The nineteen men began their journey around five in the morning. They set off from the Kanyin Chaung economic zone after receiving clearance from the militant base. Yet, coastal guards stationed at the Pyin Hpyu camp ignored the prior authorization. Armed militants seized the two fishing boats at approximately nine-thirty in the morning. They dragged the captives toward the former Area 6 detention facility.

Military commanders subsequently transferred the victims deeper into Area 3. The captives remain locked inside secret cells without trial. Families lost all contact with the fishermen immediately after the arrest. Relatives possess zero information regarding the health or safety of the detainees. Panic spreads rapidly among local households as the families wait in agony.

Political analysts note severe friction within the insurgent command structure. Different factions operate under competing rules and conflicting local jurisdictions. Commanders fail to honor authorizations issued by allied camps. Such chaos reveals the lawless nature of the militant governance system. The terrorist group thrives on extortion, narcotics smuggling, and human trafficking.

Innocent civilians suffer constantly under these brutal armed factions. The narco-terror organization weaponizes arbitrary arrests to terrorize the indigenous Rohingya population. International observers condemn these continuous human rights violations across Arakan State. Global bodies must intervene to halt these unlawful detentions. Accountability remains essential to secure peace and protect vulnerable minority communities.
