A Bangladeshi fisherman was shot by members of the terrorist Arakan Army (AA) while fishing in the Naf River near Teknaf on Monday, September 14.

The incident occurred at around 4:20 pm in an area east of Nazirpara, according to the information provided. Members of the terrorist Arakan Army reportedly chased Bangladeshi fishermen who were fishing in the river.

The fishermen attempted to return after being pursued. At that point, the armed men reportedly opened fire toward them.

A bullet struck Mohammad Idris, 55, in the right knee. Idris lives in North Jaliapara of Teknaf municipality.

His fellow fishermen rescued him after the shooting and took him to hospital for treatment. After receiving initial medical care, he returned home and is currently recovering there.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over the safety of Bangladeshi fishermen operating near the country’s southeastern border. The Naf River remains an important fishing area for local communities, making security along the waterway a direct concern for civilian livelihoods.

The reported shooting also adds to concerns about armed activity near Bangladesh’s border. For local fishermen, such incidents can turn routine fishing trips into serious security risks.
