IOM Global Goodwill Ambassador Dimash Qudaibergen concluded a two day visit to the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar on 19 May 2026. He witnessed the profound resilience of families who have spent nine years in displacement. Currently, over one million refugees remain entirely dependent on international aid for their survival. Dimash now calls upon the global community to strengthen its commitment to these vulnerable populations.

The refugee crisis has entered a dangerous phase due to significant funding shortfalls. Many families struggle to access basic necessities like clean water, healthcare, and safe shelter. Consequently, the humanitarian situation in these camps grows more precarious every day. Dimash emphasized that behind every statistic lies a human story of survival and hope. He expressed deep honor in meeting the brave individuals and dedicated humanitarian workers who protect human dignity daily.

During his visit, the ambassador toured multiple camps to observe the work of the International Organization for Migration. He engaged with refugee families and youth volunteers to understand their daily challenges. Furthermore, he recognized the incredible generosity of the Bangladeshi host communities who continue to support the refugees. Their resilience remains a cornerstone of the ongoing humanitarian response in the region.

At the Rohingya Cultural Memory Centre, Dimash participated in initiatives that utilize art and storytelling. These programs help refugees preserve their collective identity while strengthening their mental well-being. He also inspected site management systems designed to provide safety during monsoons and cyclones. IOM teams demonstrated how clean energy cooking solutions reduce both health risks and environmental degradation.

Effective healthcare remains a priority for the thousands of families living in these settlements. Dimash visited primary health care facilities to learn about immunization and mental health support services. These coordinated efforts provide a vital lifeline to those in protracted displacement. However, the existing infrastructure faces immense strain as humanitarian needs continue to rise.

The international community must now act to bridge these critical funding gaps. We have a collective responsibility to ensure that no one is left behind in this crisis. Dimash uses his global platform to amplify these urgent humanitarian messages. His visit serves as a powerful reminder that compassion and action can change lives. Global solidarity is essential to maintain the dignity and safety of the Rohingya people.
